From a highway to a boulevard
City Council Traffic and Parking Committee, 6 p.m. Monday. This committee run by city councilor Naima Sait discusses the state’s $120 million McGrath Boulevard project, which is intended to take down the highway separating East Somerville and put the replacement road on a “diet” to two lanes from three in each direction in multiple locations. School improvement plans
School Committee, 7 p.m. Monday. Superintendent Rubén Carmona speaks on improvement plans for the high school and Next Wave/Full Circle programs. The committee meets at 93 Highland Ave., Winter Hill, Somerville. Watchable online and by Zoom videoconferencing.
Kennedy schoolyard improvements
City Council Finance Committee, 6 p.m. Tuesday. This committee run by city councilor Ben Wheeler votes on dozens of grants and appropriations, including $2 million in bonding for improvements to the John F. Kennedy School yard, at 5 Cherry St. in Spring Hill near Porter Square, supplemented by $1 million in Community Preservation Act funds; and money to replace lighting at Trum and Dilboy fields. Walk of school for families
New school building project site walk, 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The Winter Hill and Brown School communities are invited to meet with architects to tour the former Winter Hill Community Innovation School building and share preferences and concerns to help shape the design of Somerville’s next new school building. Items of discussion might include outdoor spaces, traffic patterns and student pickup and drop-off points; historic uses of the space to retain; and environmental and sustainability priorities.
