On Friday, March 6, Boston Bitdown explored the meaning of chiptune, which includes visual spectacle. The lighting team – during Double Feature’s performance – covered the interior of the Capitol Theatre with digital projections, sectioning them out into individual panels, creating an effect that made the building seem to crumble apart.

In addition to the lineup at Capitol Theatre in Arlington, Friday shows were staged at Deep Cuts in Medford and Aeronaut Brewing in Somerville.

Boston’s Battlemode appeared on Friday afternoon. The electronic outfit performed as a six-piece. Their chiptune, europop, “color punk” fusion presented an uncompromising refusal to conform to “traditional” notions of punk sound and aesthetics. David “Biff” Jubinsky mesmerized the audience with a violin solo atop the gurgling synth beats.
