With the breeze beneath Boston’s sails, Bow Market was bustling with booklovers young and old, iced coffees in hand, perusing the shelves, cookbook swaps and even an instant poetry stand titled Typewriter Poets in the Courtyard. Poetry lovers waited in line to share a theme with the on-duty wordsmiths and returned in the afternoon to pick up their custom poem.

It was refreshing to share the spring air with the bustling throng of humanity, reminding one of the existence of community after the long winter months. Visitors breezed in and out of the pop-up shops, with presentations from All She Wrote Books, the Somerville Public Library, Narrative Books, Indestructible Food, One More Chapter Candle Co. and more.

Book lovers found their way to nearby Union Tavern for an author panel titled “At Home in Other Worlds: Building Truth into Fantasy Settings.” The event was hosted by Side Quest Books & Games. Laura Hearn moderated a panel of fantasy authors Fonda Lee, Jenn Lyons and Lyndsay Ely, who spoke in depth about the challenges and joys of world-building.

Later in the evening Literary Drag Trivia, hosted by Mx. Mingle upstairs at Bow Market, tested Somerville’s literary knowledge, to close out the book fair on a fabulous note.
