Preamble with Boynton Yards …

Planning Board, 6 p.m. Thursday. The board gets a half-hour to itself before joining with the City Council’s Land Use Committee to talk about allowing more housing at Boynton Yards and Windsor Place, which is near the MBTA green line stop for Union Square, considering the downturn in tenants for lab space; as well as four zoning amendments concerning backyard “cottages.” Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.

… before backyard cottages talk

Land Use Committee, 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The Planning Board and committee talks Boynton Yards homes and four zoning amendments concerning backyard “cottages” – which can be quite big – submitted by 24-year Somerville alderman Bill White. He and other residents are concerned the backyard homes are being built too big and without affordable units, and propose that the cottages be ancillary to a lot’s main structure, with size limited to 900 square feet, and that there be transparency when a lot is split; approval for a lot split with a chance for public comment; and that a lot split require an affordability component. Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
