$5 It’s a summer drink, they say, but I am an iconoclast. All weather is ice cream weather, and why not the same for lemonade? To be honest, I came to this lemonade by chance: I largely view a drink at a cafe as the price of admission to work or to lounge, so I found myself at Saigon Tiger mainly because it was free of the crowds and cacophony that the weekend had swept into nearby cafes. The lemonade had a bright lemon flavor, not too sweet or acidic. The spice surfaced only after I swallowed, coating my tongue and throat and initiating an interminable cycle – another sip soothed the spice, just to restore it a moment later. So I sipped again, and again … It’s not a drink for everyone, but I enjoyed its push and pull, like minicinematic crescendos or alimentary waves of fire and ice.
