$4 I double-dipped at this new-ish assortment of food stands, writing last week about a grilled cheese sandwich from Juicy Jay’s, and this would be cheating the concept of the Bite column if the whole point of a food hall weren’t to take advantage of the variety. Like Jonas Beausejour’s sandwich joint Jay’s, Chatty Patty is founded by a Cambridge chef, Emmanuel “Manny” Mervil, who also runs the Everybody Gotta Eat soul food seller across the aisle. These Caribbean-style patties come out sizzling, with the kind of grease sheen that signals you’re about to enjoy yourself. The shrimp inside are ground rather than whole and might be sea monkeys for all I know, but Mervil knows what he’s doing; I wished I’d ordered more than one. (Beef, chicken or vegetable are $3.) The accompanying sauce is just a well-chosen Ken’s chipotle mayonnaise, which can be used sparingly because the seasoned shrimp and pastry is enough.
