Hundreds gathered for a silent vigil Friday for Louisa Gag, a bicyclist and transit advocate killed by a truck driver the previous day.
People from across the region gathered in Allston and Roslindale for memorial rides to the vigil at Tremont and Parker streets near Roxbury Crossing.
People placed flowers and candles among thank-you notes and messages of love. Many shared hugs and formed small groups to talk about how much Gag meant to them.
Gag was a Roslindale resident and a transportation planner for Boston. As a public policy advocate with the LivableStreets Alliance, according to reporting by Streetsblog, Gag helped Somerville develop its Vision Zero action plan – ways to engineer roads toward such a degree of safety that traffic deaths fall to zero.
The Massachusetts Vision Zero Coalition describes her in a published statement as a champion for safer streets, a vibrant part of the planning and advocacy community and a person dedicated to fixing the system that failed her.
Roslindale Village Main Streets has organized a 4 p.m. Sunday gathering at Adams Park to remember and honor Gag. The event is held with the blessing of Gag’s family.
