Armory finances and leasing
Armory Advisory Board, 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The recently formed board reviews the community art building’s financial history, its leasing status and what’s next for vacant spaces. The renewal of three tenants and welcoming of five new businesses was announced in July, leaving roughly 18 percent of leasable space open, or 3,990 square feet. The meeting is in-person at At The Armory, 191 Highland Ave., Spring Hill, Somerville.
Cobble Hill; 84 Broadway; 15 Elm
Urban Design Commission, 6 p.m. Tuesday. There are design recommendation and reviews for work at the Cobble Hill Apartments at 84 Washington St. (which comes ahead of a development process for homes, retail and other uses at the neighboring 90 Washington St., 4 acres that was once the Cobble Hill mall); a two-story building at 84 Broadway, East Somerville, which is proposed to be restored and get a three-story addition overhead, ending up with 20 residential units and a commercial tenant (Amigos Market is now at its base); and, from the same LaCourt Realty owned by Mouhab Rizkallah, a project that has been languishing at 13 Elm St., empty for 10 years since the abrupt closing of the Aguacate Verde restaurant. Rizkallah said he wanted to combine the former restaurant with his neighboring properties at 15 Elm St. and 2-6 Porter St., but the city and Rizkallah got into a dispute over who wasn’t responding to who. Body-worn cameras; procurement
City Council Legislative Matters Committee, 6 p.m. Tuesday. This committee run by city councilor J.T. Scott holds a hearing on police getting body-worn cameras, after a grant to buy the devices was accepted July 27 by the City Council; moves the Davis Square Neighborhood Council closer to formal recognition; and grapples with an “ethical procurement” policy that touches on Israel, Palestine and debates over the meanings of genocide and antisemitism.
Somerville Civic Day fair event
Civic Day, 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Learn about local government and services at this fair-style event with tours of City Hall and a chance to meet elected officials and staff from across municipal departments, learn about or access services and enjoy games, activities, food and small giveaways. In-person at City Hall, 93 Highland Ave., Central Hill.
25th anniversary 9/11 service
Remembrance ceremony, 6 p.m. Friday. The city’s Veterans’ Services department marks the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, honoring victims, first responders, workers and volunteers who worked to save lives or take part in cleanup. A moment of silence, invocation and benediction, and remarks by city officials are planned, followed by a bagpipe tribute. Attendees will be given roses to place on the 9/11 Memorial. In-person in Davis Square.
Hazardous waste collection
Household hazardous waste drop-off, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Items accepted from residents include motor oil, aerosol paint, household cleaning chemicals, rechargeable batteries and more. At the Department of Public Works, 1 Franey Road, Magoun Square.
