Sep. 10: The Magic Lab Lightning Round: Boston’s Open Mic Magic Show (The Foundry, Cambridge)
The Magic Lab is a monthly magic show series at The Foundry in Cambridge. For one night only, The Magic Lab will transform into an open mic (versus its usual featured magicians line-up). Each open mic magician will get five minutes to mesmerize the audience with some quick tricks. The show is hosted by Boston Magic Lab, started by a group of friends with a mission to “build a space and community for diverse local talent to grow and thrive.”
Sep. 13: Side Quest’s Second Birthday Bash (Bow Market, Somerville)
Side Quest Books and Games feels like it has been a part of the community since the void dragons reigned over Prospect Hill (glad that is over). The bookstore turns 2 years old this September and it’s hosting a chill nighttime celebration on Sep. 13 from 6-10 p.m. Whimsically tucked into a corner of Bow Market, Side Quest Books is a “woman-and-queer-owned fantasy shop for magical books, indie tabletop role-playing games, and nerdy knick-knacks.” Take a chance: enjoy some snacks and play card games with your neighbors. Free.

Sep. 14: Picture and Panel: Nervous Laughter (Boston Figurative Arts Center, Somerville)
Picture and Panel is a monthly conversation series hosted by Boston Comic Arts spotlighting influential graphic novel creators. “Nervous Laughter” explores mental health and humor with cartoonists Gemma Correll, award-winning cartoonist, writer, and illustrator, and Nicole Georges, the author of the Lambda Award-winning graphic novel “Calling Dr. Laura.” Free.
Sep. 14: Word on the Street: Poetry as Record (Somerville Library, West Branch)
“Word on the Street” is a weekly series of poetry workshops hosted by the Somerville Library. The Sep. 14 iteration, “Poetry as Record,” will encourage poets to notice and archive everyday beauty and inspiration, drawing details from their daily lives and their communities. Attendees will study the craft of contemporary poets and learn new writing tools, exercises and prompts. Future dates of “Word on the Street”: Sep. 21, Sep. 28, Oct. 5, Oct. 19 and Oct. 26. Free.
