Aid for immigrants and police
City Council Finance Committee, 6 p.m. Tuesday. This committee run by city councilor Ben Wheeler looks at lease agreements for commercial arts space at the Somerville Armory Building; handles appropriations and grants that help people including immigrants and asylum seekers seeking permanent residency, as well as police with 911 and body armor funding needs; and discusses $255,045 to be spent on Vision Zero, which makes streets safer for all users. Development at 142 Cross St.
Neighborhood meeting, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The former Mr. B’s Italian Pizzeria & Bar at 142 Cross St., East Somerville, is proposed to become three residential units, and the team at developer JAC Investments presents plans and takes questions. Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
Development at 84 Washington St.
Neighborhood meeting, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. A plan to add parking spaces to the Cobble Hill Apartments property is presented for discussion on its way toward zoning approval. Cobble Hill, for people ages 62 and up, is expected to have neighbors eventually: homes, retail and other uses at the neighboring 90 Washington St., 4 acres that was once the Cobble Hill mall. Neighborhood Connect in Ward 4
Neighborhood meeting, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Formerly known as City Hall Community Meetings, these sessions bring the mayor, City Council and School Committee to Somerville’s seven wards to answer questions and share information on city initiatives, neighborhood updates, crime stats and more. The new format has primarily a science-fair format instead of formal presentations and starts with a social half-hour with free pizza and snacks. CSO plan community office hours
Combined Sewer Overflow Control Plan public hearing, 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday. The cities of Somerville and Cambridge and the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority ask for comment on a draft control plan for combined sewer overflows. These CSOs take place when waste overflows into public waterways – the Alewife Brook, Mystic River and Charles River – because sewer and water systems get overwhelmed in storms. Combining two public schools
New School Building Project School Building Committee, 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sept. 28. More work on construction of a 925-student complex at at 115 Sycamore St., Winter Hill, to meet the needs of the combined communities of the closed Winter Hill Community Innovation School and aging Benjamin G.
