Sept. 24: Book Karaoke (Juliet, Somerville)
Book Karaoke is back! The second edition, hosted by Galiot Press, will return on Thursday at Juliet restaurant. The hosts will provide a binder of passages from your favorite literary bangers including: “Anna Karenina,” “The Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” and “The Great Gatsby.” Show off your dramatic interpretations of classic fiction in front of your friends. I know there are people who daydream about doing something like this. Food and drink will be available from Juliet restaurant.
Sept. 25: InFATuation: Theater in the Round (Crystal Ballroom, Somerville)
Friday’s InFATuation: Theater in the Round, promises to be “an electrifying night of burlesque, drag, and gloriously unapologetic fat bodies, served up by a stunning cast of zaftig beauties who are ready for their close-up.” InFATuation is a showcase of big performances, bigger personalities. InFATuation is brought to you by New England burlesque royalty, Jane Doe and Dahlia Strack.
Sept. 25 to 27: Lilypad’s 20th Anniversary Party (Lilypad, Cambridge)
Cambridge’s cherished DIY arts venue, The Lilypad in Inman Square turns 20 (!) this weekend and the club is throwing a three-day event to celebrate. For over two decades (!!) the pond-sized room has featured acts of all music genres as well as poetry, performance, yoga, (and, honestly, name it). This family-friendly and free (!!!) birthday party will include the launch of a new window stage, a silent disco, an art jam, karaoke and live music. Electric Zeus and the Lilypad house band will perform each evening of the event. The Lilypad is a rare gem of a place these days, we love you.
Sept. 26: Book Fair (The Clubhouse at 504 Medford Street, Somerville)
Did you know? There is a sci-fi and fantasy used bookstore in Magoun Square. New England Science Fiction Association’s book fair is on Saturday. They are offering free books – yes, free – duplicates from their collection. They have received some big donations recently so there is a lot of adventure and peril to go around. If you are looking for a new series to dive into, want to revisit an old classic, or seek original Wheel of Time cover art, this is a good bet for all you bards and stargazers.
