$4.67 After deciding the best slice of cheese pizza in Somerville’s Davis Square, doing the same for Cambridge’s Central Square felt right – but it turns out the best here is nearly the only: New York Pizza is squeezed in near what might be considered its sole competition, a 7-Eleven where stale slices bake under a heat lamp. (Primo sells slices on Main Street in The Port, about midway to Kendall Square. Si Cara sells entire pies, and Viale has whole pies of Margherita and pistachio pesto.) Fortunately , you need only one, and New York Pizza is great at what it does, exceptionally substantial for the cost, since each slice is around a quarter of a big pie, with 10 flavors in the case to be blasted to the perfect temperature within minutes of ordering. The sauce is sweet, the sublime crust holds together and the joint is open until 1 a.m.
