$4 I took one bite and couldn’t stop – and not just because as someone with a nut allergy, it was a sweet surprise to find that Vinal Bakery makes an assortment of pastries that are safe to eat. Though known for its English muffins and breakfast sandwiches, Vinal has an array of pastries that includes rich, fruity, buttery scones. The flavors are on a rotation, with this month being Lemon Blueberry, and I was happy to find I could bite into what usually could be only a feast for my eyes. These were firmed on the outside from a lemon glaze that was not overly sweet, with a flaky, soft center packed with blueberries. American scones can be dry and crumbly, a clumsy exaggeration of the savory British version of this cousin to the biscuit. Vinal dodges the dry; this what I imagine a perfect breakfast bite to be.
