An incident Friday at the Davis Square T station in Somerville was reminiscent of a death this year when a man fell and get stuck in the escalator, dying because his clothes tightened around his body. In a 7 a.m. Friday incident, a woman’s clothing got caught at the bottom of a Davis Square escalator – but she was rescued.
A person riding ahead of her was able to press the emergency stop button and help her get loose from the escalator, according to media reports citing an MBTA statement.
“We thank the fellow rider who helped during the incident this morning by hitting the stop button,” an MBTA spokesperson said. “In the event of an emergency, any member of the public can stop an escalator by pressing the red button labeled ‘stop’ at the top and bottom of each escalator.”
In the death, Steven McCluskey was trapped Feb. 27. MBTA security footage shows McCluskey fall and get stuck while more than a dozen T riders pass by; he died March 9. A vigil was held for McCluskey on June 1 at the station.
