Cobble Hill work; 84 Broadway
Urban Design Commission, 6 p.m. Tuesday. For a design recommendation, work at the Cobble Hill Apartments at 84 Washington St. comes ahead of a development process for homes, retail and other uses at the neighboring parcel: 90 Washington St., 4 acres that was once the Cobble Hill mall. For design review, a two-story building at 84 Broadway, East Somerville, would be restored and get a three-story addition overhead, ending up with 20 residential units and a commercial tenant (Amigos Market is now at its base) in a proposal by LaCourt Realty and Joe the Architect. The owner of LaCourt, Mouhab Rizkallah, has a project languishing at 13 Elm St., which has been empty for 10 years since the abrupt closing of the Aguacate Verde restaurant. Rizkallah said he wanted to combine the former restaurant with his neighboring properties at 15 Elm St. and 2-6 Porter St., but the city and Rizkallah got into a dispute over who wasn’t responding to who, and there’s been no action at the site. Six more for preservation funds
Community Preservation Committee, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The committee considers funding requests for projects at the Somerville Armory, Spring Street Triangle, Elizabeth Peabody House, Mission Church of Christ, 125 Highland Ave. and Somerville Museum. Tough decisions will have to be made this year, members said at the July meeting. The nine projects before it ask $7.7 million, when there’s only $3.5 million available including a reserve for the committee’s open space and preservation buckets.
