Neighborhood Connect in Ward 1

Neighborhood meeting, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Formerly known as City Hall Community Meetings, these sessions bring the mayor, City Council and School Committee to Somerville’s seven wards to answer questions and share information on city initiatives, neighborhood updates, crime stats and more. The new format has primarily a science-fair format instead of formal presentations and starts with a social half-hour with free pizza and snacks. (Find out which ward you live in with the MySomerville address lookup tool.) In person in the cafeteria at the East Somerville Community School, 50 Cross St., Somerville.

Construction parking permits

Traffic and Parking Committee, 6 p.m. Wednesday. This committee run by city councilor Naima Sait looks at construction parking permits and how enforcement affects residents. (The meeting notice credits this meeting time to the council’s Committee on Licenses and Permits.) Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.

Expanding a Target in Ward 2

Zoning Board of Appeals, 6 p.m. Wednesday. The agenda lists a hearing on an expansion of a Target at 180 Somerville Ave., Ward 2, expanding in 2027 into an adjacent vacant commercial space, with minor site and façade improvements. This hearing was continued from Sept 2 in part because there had been no traffic study at that time (though Target is only expanding into what had already been retail space).

Finding a next city arts leader

Arts Council Board, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The board gives an update on recruiting an arts director after longtime leader Greg Jenkins left in March after nearly 25 year and talks about how to help the director after a hire. The interim director talks about the cultural ambassador, program, opening of the Diamond Factory pop-up art gallery and an arts town hall.
