The Independent’s second locally themed puzzle – they come every other Saturday courtesy of local creator Daniel Mangoubi – celebrates a facet of Somerville history that is, in a way, reflected in ancient Cambridge history:
Cambridge used to be much bigger, but sections took on their own identities over the years. (Cambridge Village became Newton, Cambridge Farms become Lexington, South Cambridge became Brighton and Menotomy became Arlington.)
What original facet of Somerville changed or was lost over time but still has a reflection in the city? (Kind of like how Newton retains Cambridge’s original name of Newtowne, but not really.)
Mangoubi creates through a free platform called Crosshare, often with clues meaningful only to people who know our cities.
