There was one injury from Cambridge’s fifth gunfire incident, police said.

The shooting took place at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Rindge Avenue across from Comeau Field in North Cambridge, according to scanner reports. “Multiple 911 calls [were] reporting gunshots around Russell Field,” police said.

It was not at first clear if the ShotSpotter gunfire-detection technology also heard the incident; a caller reported hearing “four or five” shots.

After publication, a police spokesperson said of ShotSpotter, “there was no activation for the North Cambridge shooting as that took place significantly outside of the coverage radius.”

Upon arrival responders found one victim at the bus turnaround, who was taken by EMS to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. The person’s condition was not known at 4:07 p.m., when Cambridge police sent an email about the gunfire. Officers were on the scene investigating, police said.

At the same time the gunshots were reported, police took a call from someone at the Alewife MBTA station who said they saw a person carrying a handgun and walking toward the Fresh Pond Mall, across a bridge and south of the crime scene. Police searched businesses there looking for a suspect.
