These are just some of the municipal meetings and civic events for the coming week. More are on the City Calendar and in the city’s Open Meetings Portal.
Ending sewage spills from rains
CSO Control and Stormwater Management Advisory Committee, 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. A $1.3 billion plan to reduce combined sewer overflows, the term for when sewage spills into public waterways because of storms, is being prepared for presentation next year to the federal Environmental Protection Agency and state Department of Environmental Protection. If the plan – the result of four years of collaboration between Cambridge, Somerville and the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority – is accepted, the work is expected to take into the 2050s. Many want to strengthen the plan first. On the second floor of the City Hall Annex, 344 Broadway, Mid-Cambridge.
Chronic student absenteeism
School Committee School Climate Subcommittee, 5 p.m. Wednesday. This meeting co-chaired by member Caitlin Dube and mayor Sumbul Siddiqui convenes a working group on chronic absenteeism, which superintendent David Murphy said in the summer of 2025 hit an “extremely unacceptable” peak of 36 percent at the high school before the state and district managed a 12-point reduction. Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
Moxy Hotel seeks Cambridge okay
Board of Zoning Appeal, 6 p.m. Thursday. Board members hear the case of the 145-guest room Moxy Hotel at 1 McGrath Highway – once the Somerbridge Hotel project, so called because it straddles the Cambridge-Somerville line – as developers seek changes to a plan approved in July 2023 (and in Somerville, in May 2023) to put up a six-story hotel that was once 199 rooms with a restaurant, bar and fitness center. (We wrote here about how the project shrank and lost amenities.) Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
What’s next for K-Lo building
School Committee, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The future of the school building at 158 Spring St. in East Cambridge is addressed. The campus hosted the Kennedy-Longfellow School for 51 years, but the committee voted to close the K-Lo in December 2024; now it could hold a relocated Amigos School; a giant hub for the expanding Cambridge Preschool Program; and a place to merge upper schools, meaning district campuses for sixth, seventh and eighth graders might go to two from four. The committee meets in the Dr. Henrietta S. Attles Meeting Room at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, 459 Broadway, Mid-Cambridge. Televised and watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
