Adorned in an emerald green dress, Indian classical dancer Anjali Nath had the Fall Into Dance event audience count to 16 as she told a Kathak story. With middle and ring fingers meeting her thumb to form antlers, she was a deer; drawing her arms into a bow and arrow, she was its hunter. Nath explained the motivation behind each movement so everyone could try the steps.

Then Greater Boston’s dance leaders got to business at the Sept. 18 event: opening the 2026-2027 season. Representatives from Vivo Performing Arts (formerly the Celebrity Series of Boston), Arts at the Armory and the Multicultural Arts Center spoke about upcoming performances – center artist-in-residence Yarumi Gonzalez has a showcase at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7 – and Global Arts Live announced its new performance venue, The Platform. It opens Nov. 5-7 with a vertical performance by Bandaloop in which members perform suspended outside the Kendall Square building.

Jean Appolon Expressions, Beheard.world, the Janelle Gilchrist Dance Troupe and Boston Bollywood presented, and the Infinity Dance Collective announced a Wellness Fest, for dancers to take care of their bodies. The evening ended with attendees forming two small concentric circles – many presenters had left by this point – to share one on one what they have to offer and what they need. The most common need: space to perform and create, with less red tape that makes it so hard to access.

Nath returned after the presentations to perform an excerpt from her show “Half,” demonstrating the storytelling taught earlier, this time using only the rhythm of her feet and her facial expressions.
